Partnership & Exchange Programs

As the Program Manager for Partnership, Exchange and Global Internship Programs, Shira is responsible for coordinating and directing the activities of the Partnership and Exchange unit. She also oversees programming and advising for Partnership and Exchange programs running in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden & Switzerland. 

Prior to joining the Arizona State University (ASU) Study Abroad Office (SAO) in 2015, Shira spent five years working in academic affairs for a private study abroad organization in Phoenix, AZ, where she provided centralized coordination for global academic operations, and oversaw academic advising initiatives.

A former Sun Devil, Shira holds a Master’s degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from ASU and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from York College of Pennsylvania.  As an undergraduate she studied abroad in London, England, where she first developed a passion for international education.  She has since traveled throughout England, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Mexico and the Caribbean, and enjoys helping students find ways to make study abroad a reality.

Burns, S. (2013, May). Best Practices for Incorporating Social Media into the Study Abroad
Curriculum.   Presented at the annual NAFSA Technology Fair.
Burns, S. (2010, March).  Rethinking the Framework of Facebook in Higher Education. Presented at Arizona State University Higher & Post-Secondary Education Poster Consortium.
