Study Abroad Office Diversity Scholarships

Florence Managerial Acctg To increase the number of underrepresented ASU students going abroad, the ASU Study Abroad Office is pleased to offer $2000 Diversity Scholarships to ASU students participating in programs sponsored by the Study Abroad Office located outside the U.S.

SAO Diversity Scholarship recipients will be required to commit to and complete a follow-on project to help the Study Abroad Office share study abroad opportunities with other ASU students.  Examples might include sharing your experience with a classroom or a student group, volunteering for Study Abroad Office events, or contributing a blog post or article to the Study Abroad Office detailing some aspect of your study abroad experience.

Who is diverse? Some examples include (but are not limited to): NOTE: Diversity Scholarships are limited, and students may only receive this scholarship once.










 
To be eligible for an SAO Diversity Scholarship, applicants must:
  • Be a diverse student.
  • Have an active application to an ASU-sponsored study abroad program by the SAO Diversity Scholarship deadline.
  • Have a minimum cumulative ASU GPA of 2.5 at the time of application.
  • Be a degree-seeking ASU student (undergraduate or graduate) at the time of application.
  • Have a current FAFSA on file with ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services at the time of application, and be eligible to receive ASU financial aid.
  • Have the equivalent of one full-time semester of completed and posted ASU credit hours at the time of application.*
  • Be in good standing with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Commit to and complete a follow-on project to help the SAO share study abroad opportunities with other ASU students.
*Exceptions include transfer students from the Maricopa Community Colleges and freshmen applying to GIE programs; both may apply for the diversity scholarship.
Application process:
  • 2 essays (approximately 250-300 words each) addressing the prompts below:
    • Students with diverse backgrounds/identities often have unique experiences that differ from the broader student body.  With this is mind, tell us about yourself—your diverse characteristics, the unique perspectives that these characteristics have given you, and any past study abroad/international travel experience.
    • Thinking about your answer above, tell us why you have selected your particular study abroad program and what you hope to gain personally, academically, and/or professionally through this experience. 
  • 1 biographic statement (approximately 150 words) to be used in publications
Please note, although you can apply for the SAO Travel Grant, the SAO Diversity Scholarship, and the SAO Sun Devils at Work Scholarship, you can only receive one.
