Program Description

The ASU Study Abroad Office (SAO) is pleased to provide funding for a limited number of ASU study abroad program leaders (faculty directors or program support staff) to participate in study abroad and international education professional development conferences and opportunities. As part of our strategic plan, our aim is to equip our faculty directors and support staff with additional training on effective program design and intercultural competency development to then have them influence their students in the area of intercultural understanding, awareness, and sensitivity. Phase 2 of this initiative is to expand SAO training materials to include sessions for faculty not taking students abroad on how to infuse intercultural and global competency development into home campus/online teaching.  Below are the professional development opportunities for which the SAO will be providing funding for the 2019-2020 Academic Year.  Please note that while individuals may apply for both conferences, they can only receive funding to attend one conference.

Each application consists of two short essay responses. Applications will be reviewed by SAO leadership with particular attention given to what the applicant hopes to specifically accomplish and gain from the conference and what ideas they have for sharing information learned with the broader ASU community.
