Increasing Your Financial Aid Eligibility

Financial Aid recipients may submit this Cost Sheet to the Student Financial Assistance Office (SFAO) in order to have your financial need reassessed based on the cost of your participation in this Partnership program. NOTE: Students whose need is reassessed may only be eligible for an increase in Federal Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized loans, Parent (Plus) loans or Alternative loans. There is no guarantee that you will receive increased funding as a result of this process.

If you wish to have your Financial Aid eligibility reassessed, you should follow the steps outlined below:

1) FILE a FAFSA for the academic year in which your program occurs. Summer is associated with the previous academic year. Be sure to submit all required financial aid documentation requested on your "To Do" list on My ASU.

2) CONFIRM your participation in the Partnership program. This is a step that you will take within your online study abroad program application, after the status of your application has been changed to "Accepted" by your International Coordinator.

3) REGISTER for the study abroad placeholder course (for the appropriate number of credits). Summer participants MUST be registered before the costs outlined on this Cost Sheet can be factored into your total cost of attendance.

4) REVIEW your existing aid package and make sure that you have accepted all aid offered.

5) PRINT this document, sign it on the line provided above, and bring it to the Study Abroad Office for a signature from an International Coordinator.

6) BRING your signed Cost Sheet to a Financial Aid Counselor in SFAO. SFAO may request that you leave the Cost Sheet for their evaluation; they may not be able to immediately assist you.

Important Notes about Program Fees and Additional Student Costs

1) Partnership program participants DO NOT pay tuition to ASU for the courses completed on their study abroad program. Instead, you will be required to pay the Program Fee listed above as a condition of participation. The Program Fee will be directly billed to your ASU Student Account; after registering for your study abroad placeholder course, tuition will be charged as normal and then a billing credit will be applied to your ASU Student Account to cover the cost of tuition included in the Program Fee.

2) Non-Resident students participating in Partnership programs may be required to pay a higher Program Fee than Arizona residents, due to the increased ASU tuition rates for Non-Resident students. The Program Fee charged to any Non-Resident student must at least equal the cost of ASU tuition for that individual student. If the Program Fee for Non-Resident students is different from the Program Fee for Arizona residents, there will be a Cost Estimates (Non-Resident) column above which will include the Non-Resident Program Fee.

3) Participants are required to pay mandatory registration fees to ASU, as normal.  Although participants DO NOT pay tuition for the study abroad program course(s), students will be expected to pay the following mandatory fees as a condition of participation: Technology Fee, Student Programs Fee, and Financial Aid Trust Fee. You may click here for a description of these madatory fees or click here to view current fee amounts for the term of your study abroad program. These expenses will be directly billed to your ASU Student Account at the time you register for your study abroad placeholder course.

4) Participants are required to pay a $50 Application Fee as a condition of participation. The $50 Application Fee is non-refundable. The Application Fee will be directly billed to your ASU Student Account.

5) Participants will also incur Additional Student Costs throughout the duration of the program. These out-of-pocket costs, as outlined above, are estimates of additional expenses. These expenses are paid directly by the participant and will NOT be billed to your ASU Student Account.

NOTE: Certain majors at ASU charge students an additional program tuition/fee in order to maintain enrollment in the major (e.g. W. P. Carey, Barrett, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering); students are responsible for paying these fees as normal. In addition, some host institution courses may require additional fees (e.g. laboratory fees) that students will be responsible for paying directly.

Comparing Costs for Different Programs

Affordability is an important factor when selecting a study abroad program. The programs offered through the ASU Study Abroad Office vary in cost depending on the features of the program, geographic location, length, program inclusions such as excursions and cultural activities, and the level of on-site support. Because institutions around the world determine program costs at different times, it may not always be possible for the Study Abroad Office to provide actual cost information before you apply for the program. You are encouraged to consult this Cost Sheet on a regular basis as it is frequently updated with the most current cost and billing information available.

NOTE: Additional information is available on our Financing Your Study Abroad Program website.

Other Things to Keep in Mind

1) The Study Abroad Office (SAO) will only sign this cost sheet for students with an application status of "Confirmed."  However, students may visit the Student Financial Assistance Office (SFAO) at any time to review available aid for the term abroad or to request a financial aid estimate from a Financial Aid Counselor. SAO encourages you to speak with a Financial Aid Counselor even before creating a study abroad program application.

2) The "Non-Billable" Item(s) listed above are estimates only and may not be comprehensive. Actual expenses will vary depending primarily upon your lifestyle, cost of living in the program location(s), and the currency exchange rate.

3) Currency exchange rates can fluctuate sharply. Be aware of the value of the US dollar relative to the local currency and consider this factor in the budgeting process.

* Billable items will be directly billed to applicant's ASU Student Account
