Call for Study Abroad Bloggers!

The Study Abroad Office (SAO) would like talented writers to serve as official SAO bloggers via Wordpress.

Guidelines:

Selected bloggers would be expected to contribute at least three blog posts during the duration of their program (one towards the beginning, one during the middle, and one at the end.) However, more posts with good content are encouraged!  Bloggers will be assigned contributor status in Wordpress to allow them to write the post but not publish.  The SAO will review all posts for content/grammar and then publish.

Content should be academic and/or cultural in nature.  Posts focusing on partying, nightlife, and alcohol/drugs will not be published.  It is okay to briefly mention nightlife and/or partying if making a cultural reference but these should not be the main foci of the posts.  Examples of good posts would be to recount a social/cultural excursion that you participated on; to discuss the academic differences between an American course and a course in the host location; to recount a personal trip taken during the program; to describe new international friends the you've made; to describe a funny or inspirational anecdote; to reflect on cultural lessons learned; etc.

Eligibility:

Student must be studying abroad through an ASU SAO approved program during Academic Year 2013-2014, Spring Semester 2014 or Calendar Year 2014.  Selected bloggers will be asked to read and adhere to all of the terms, conditions, obligations, and policies imposed by WordPress.

How to Apply:

Send the below items by Sunday, January 12 to studyabroad@asu.edu with subject line ‘Wordpress Blogger':

1) Your name, major, and study abroad program
2) A sample blog post responding to this prompt, not to exceed 500 words: Explain what your expectations and thoughts were pre-departure.  Possible topics you may want to address or questions you might try to answer in your post include outlining your reasons for wanting to study abroad and discussing the obstacles you have overcome in order to make this a reality.   What expectations do you have for your semester abroad and about the host culture?  What are you most excited for and why? What are you most nervous or anxious about?  Do you have any interesting goals or plans?  What do you hope to accomplish?
