The Critical Languages Institute, a program of the ASU Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies, offers a three-week study-abroad program in Tirana for students of intermediate and advanced Albanian. The Tirana program builds on the experience of students in the intensive Albanian summer-session courses held on ASU’s Tempe campus in June and July. (The program is also open to other eligible students.) Before submitting your application on this site, you must first apply at the Critical Languages Institute (COOR Hall 4469) or at the Melikian Center (COOR Hall 4456). Locations
Founded in 1114, Tirana is the capital of Albania. The largest and fastest-growing city in Albania, it is the country’s commercial, cultural, and educational center. The University of Tirana, where the ASU program is housed, is known for its vibrant intellectual atmosphere.
Eligibility
CLI Intensive Language Albanian and the CLI Tirana program are open to undergraduates, graduate students, and non-degree students. Applicants are expected to have completed at least one summer in the ASU Critical Languages Institute Albanian program or to have equivalent experience (at least two semesters of Albanian language study).
Academic Program
Under the guidance of University of Tirana faculty, students participate in intensive language coursework, excursions, field trips, and instruction on Albanian history and culture. Participants receive two ASU credits for successful completion of the program (SLC 494).

Living Accommodations
Participants live in private or shared housing in apartments or with families. Meals are provided in university cafeterias or in local cafes and restaurants.
Cost Information
Tuition is waived for the Tirana program. Applicants will be charged a $275 non-refundable program deposit. The cost of $932(subject to change) includes: program fees, tuition, housing, and excursions. Not included: airfare, visas, passports, meals or personal expenses. Please bring at least $350 with you for your food costs. Fellowships are available. See http://cli.asu.edu for details. Financial aid may be used for CLI summer coursework. Students should apply for financial aid through their home institutions.
