Greece International Studio

If you are not currently enrolled at ASU, you must apply for admission at ASU before completing the Study Abroad online application.

June 07 to June 23, 2008

This two-week international studio is based in Thessaloniki, Greece, at the campus of Dimitris Perrotis Agricultural College and will be a project-oriented international study program with excursions and special cultural events organized by ASU and Greek faculty. The project will focus on master plan development and preparation of landscape design plans for the 100-acre campus. The goal is to transform the existing grounds and buildings into a sustainable model for campus development. Students will work as a team, each building on specific interests and strengths to develop concepts for future form of the campus. This program also provides an opportunity for students to learn more about Greek culture and daily life.

$275.00 deposit fee required for enrollment. Tuition and fees are not included with the program cost.

Locations

ATHENS JUNE 7-10

Arrive in Athens on June 7. A site visit to the Acropolis and Plaka are scheduled.

THESSALONIKI JUNE 10-18

An evening train from Athens will take the students to Thessaloniki.  Students will be engaged in course activities on weekdays. Weekends are set aside for excursions and free time. Approximately one day per week is allocated for student free time.

ATHENS JUNE 19-23

A morning train will transport students back to Athens. Daily excursions to Santorini, Naxos, Delos and Mykonos are scheduled. 

Eligibility

Anyone eligible to register for ASU Summer Sessions courses may register for this program. Students may register for undergraduate or graduate credit or audit, but must pay for 3 credits of ASU tuition and fees. A completed program application and deposit are required to hold a place in the program.

Applications with a $275 non-refundable deposit are due on or before April 1, 2008. 

Academic Program

This course is an intensive international studio that includes guided field trips, lectures and workshops in addition to the campus planning and design project that will be undertaken. Specific cultural events and activities, hosted and organized by local faculty, students and others will allow for greater exposure to Greek culture and life.

  • LAP 585 | Greece International Studio (3)

Living Accommodations

Lodging is prearranged for shared rooms in college dormitories in Thessaloniki. In Athens and on the Greek Islands, lodging will be in shared rooms in modest pensions or hotels. Travel from Athens to Thessaloniki is included in program fees. In cities, public transportation (metro and buses) will be used. Students are responsible for public transportation costs.

Cost Information

The cost of $1,380 (subject to change) includes program fees, lodging and meals in Thessaloniki, lodging in Athens, entrance fees for group activities and cultural events organized by faculty and staff at Dimitris Perrotis College. Not included: ASU tuition and fees, airfare to and from Greece, daily expenses for meals in Athens, public transportation, passports and personal expenses.

The Program may allow for time which can be spent in non-Program activities. Participants may wish to travel, sightsee or participate in activities or events in which they have a personal interest. Please note that the participant is fully responsible for making arrangements and for all costs of transportation, lodging, food and additional expenses that may be associated with any non-Program activities.
