This program is a unique opportunity for students to have an intercultural study experience while completing their general studies requirements in cultural diversity and global awareness and their degree requirements in Communication.

$450.00 deposit fee required for enrollment. Tuition and fees are not included with the program cost.

London is a large, lively city as well as a historic one, dating back nearly 2,000 years. Historic sights such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London provide a rich cultural background for understanding the British people

DUBLIN JUNE 6 - 17
Dublin occupies a beautiful site, with Dublin Bay to the east and the Dublin Mountains to the south. Dublin Castle, St. Patrick's and Christ Church cathedrals are landmarks, and Phoenix Park is one of the largest city parks in the world.

EDINBURGH JUNE 17 - 29
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and is a city of unparalleled beauty. Edinburgh Castle is the home of the Scottish Crown jewels.

Eligibility

Students from all universities are welcome to enroll. Participants must have a 2.5 GPA and have either COM 100 or COM 207 completed prior to the program's start date. Applications with a $450 non-refundable deposit are due on or before February 4, 2008. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis. Please complete the pre-application for this program at http://www.asu.edu/clas/communication/undergraduate/studyabroad/documents/Pre-applicationforLondonCom08.doc and turn it in directly to Dr. Belle Edson. Students who are selected to participate will receive further communication from Dr. Edson with regard to program enrollment.

Academic Program

Students must take a minimum of 6 credits or two classes but have the option to take a maximum of 9 credits or 3 classes. All students must enroll in COM 494 but may choose the rest of their classes from the following list:

  • COM 312 | Communication, Conflict & Negotiation (3)
  • COM 323 | Pop Culture (3)
  • COM 371 | Language, Culture & Communication (3)
  • COM 410 | Theory & Research in Interpersonal Communication (3)
  • COM 411 | Family Communication (3)
  • COM 494 | ST: British Life & Culture (3) (required)

Living Accommodations

Housing is based on double or triple occupancy in traditional dormitory rooms in London and university residences in Dublin and Edinburgh. Cooking facilities are provided.

Cost Information

The cost of $5,600: (subject to possible change) includes: international round trip airfare from Phoenix to the United Kingdom (U.K.); U.K. air travel between London & Dublin, Dublin & Edinburgh, and Edinburgh & London; airport transfers; housing in all 3 cities; and course-sponsored field trips and admissions to cultural events. Not included: ASU tuition and fees, passport fees, books, food, and personal expenses.

The Program may allow for time which can be spent in non-Program activities. Participants may wish to travel, sightsee or participate in activities or events in which they have a personal interest. Please note that the participant is fully responsible for making arrangements and for all costs of transportation, lodging, food and additional expenses that may be associated with any non-Program activities.
