More Information

Locations

Participants have the option of traveling to both New Zealand and Fiji or just to one of these nations. Both countries are culturally diverse and unique, as they are home to many different Pacific Island groups.

NEW ZEALAND MAY 14 - JUNE 5
New Zealand is definitely one of the most impressively beautiful and diverse places on earth, with towering snow-capped mountains, massive temperate forests with unusual wildlife, active volcanoes, and sophisticated "English" cities. This fast-paced, traveling exploration of the unique culture and environment of New Zealand begins in the beautiful city of Christchurch on New Zealand’s South Island, then traces up the Southern Alps to the capital of Wellington, and onward north to the harbor city of Auckland via Rotorua, the center of Maori culture. A broad range of fun and challenging excursions and activities are planned and included in the program fee: hiking, swimming with dolphins, marae visits, farm home stays, geothermal exploring, visiting parliament, and research experiences.

FIJI JUNE 6 - 13
Fiji is famous for its beautiful coasts and islands and friendly locals. The Fiji session (usually but not necessarily combined with the New Zealand session) explores indigenous health and environmental issues in the warm, tropical Pacific nation of Fiji. Students travel throughout the country visiting the outer islands, coast, inland villages, and spending time in local communities working on service learning projects. This session is designed for students from all backgrounds seeking a short term, challenging adventure in a unique and friendly country. The program fee includes all activities and excursions.

Eligibility

The program is suitable for all majors and backgrounds, and no prior knowledge is assumed or required. Applications with a $275 non-refundable deposit are due on or before February 4, 2008. Applications will be processed in order of their receipt. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis.
