The 22nd annual ASU Summer Program in Spain is an eight-week session designed to give participants a comprehensive view of the rich and unique cultural history of Spain. It combines features of a traditional study abroad program and a traveling seminar, with emphasis on art, geography, history, language and literature. The classroom work is complemented by an extensive program of guided visits to outstanding centers of Spanish cultural heritage (Roman, Arabic, Medieval, Renaissance, and Modern).

Program Cost: $2,800
$275.00 deposit fee required for enrollment. Tuition and fees are not included with the program cost.

Locations

ALMUNECAR (JUNE 7 - 28)
A charming Andalusian city, Almuñecar combines a rich cultural past with amenities of a modern mediterranean resort. Sightseeing excursions along the coast.

CULTURAL TRAVEL (JUNE 29 - JULY 6)
An essential part of the academic program, Cultural travel will include guided visits to Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla, Salamanca, and Avila.

MADRID (JULY 6 - 25)
The capital of Spain offers a wide range of attractions, from quaint medieval quarters to ultra-modern centers. It is rich in museums and theatres, and exciting in its unique after-dark entertainment life. Additional excursions to Toledo, Segovia, and El Escorial.

Eligibility

The program is open to qualified students interested in Spanish language and culture who desire to study, travel, and experience different customs, foods, and ways of life.

Applications and a $275 non-refundable deposit are due on or before February 4, 2008. Applications will be processed in order of their receipt. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis.

Academic Program

Classes are held Mondays through Thursdays in the morning. Normal enrollment is for a total of six to nine semester hours of credit.

Living Accommodations

In Almuñecar, students stay in apartments on the beach; breakfast included. In Madrid, students stay in a Colegio Mayor at the main university; all meals provided, except Sundays.

Cost Information

The cost of $2,800 (subject to change) includes program fees, housing, meals, and organized cultural travel. Not included: ASU tuition and fees, airfare to and from Spain (about $1,400), additional meals and incidentals (approx. $30 per day).

The Program may allow for time which can be spent in non-Program activities. Participants may wish to travel, sightsee or participate in activities or events in which they have a personal interest. Please note that the participant is fully responsible for making arrangements and for all costs of transportation, lodging, food and additional expenses that may be associated with any non-Program activities.
